Shenzhen Oculgen Biomedical Technology Co., Ltd. Successfully Completes Series A Financing Exceeding 20M USD, Accelerating Clinical Process of Innovative Multi-Target Antibody Drugs for Retinal Diseases in the U.S. and China.
The financing was led by LongRiver Investments, with follow-on investments from Nanshan SEI Investment, Junshi Venture Capital, BioTrack Capital, and Tsing Song Capital. The angel round investor, Yuanbio Venture Capital, continued to invest in this round. The funds raised will help the company accelerate the progress of its multi-target pipeline in both U.S. and China clinical trials and provide strong financial support for the company's further development.
Our first Innovative Pipeline OCUL101 Covers Three Indications, Achieving Clinical Advancement in Both the U.S. and China
Oculgen specializes in the research and development of innovative multi-specific biological drugs for common retinal diseases. Relying on the founding team's extensive industry experience in ophthalmic drug development, the company has made significant progress in 2024. Notably, the core product OCUL101, with exclusive intellectual property rights, has made groundbreaking progress. Just two years after the company's launch, it successfully completed simultaneous submissions in China and the U.S., securing FDA acceptance on November 19, 2024, and CDE acceptance on January 9, 2025. This achievement establishes it as the world's first dual-mechanism, triple-disease indication innovative antibody, uniquely targeting neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD), diabetic macular edema (DME), and geographic atrophy (GA).
OCUL101 is expected to become the first ophthalmic biological drug in China for GA and the world's first to cover these three indications simultaneously, offering new hope for millions of untreated patients in China and around the globe. The funds raised will be used to efficiently advance the clinical trials of OCUL101 in both the U.S. and China. Oculgen is committed to accelerating drug development to bring this light of hope into reality.
In addition to OCUL101, Oculgen has laid out a comprehensive plan for various common retinal diseases, with several multi-target drug candidates in the preclinical stage expected to submit IND applications in both the U.S. and China by the end of 2025. These products will form a rich treatment system to meet the vast unmet clinical needs of ophthalmic patients, providing more effective and accessible treatment options for retinal diseases.
Post this funding round, we will further strengthen our team by bringing in top-tier talent, fully leverage available resources, steadily push forward our R&D projects, and actively engage in collaborations both within China and internationally.
