Shenzhen Oculgen Biomedical Technology Co., Ltd. (referred to as Oculgen) was established in August 2022 by Dr. Chen ChiungKuang, a globally recognized expert in the development of drugs for retinal diseases.

Dr. Chen ChiungKuang brings over a decade of experience in ophthalmic drug research, development, and management at top-five global pharmaceutical companies. He has held key leadership roles, including Senior Director and Head of Biologics Innovation Projects at Santen Pharmaceutical in the United States, and Senior Scientist at AbbVie (formerly Allergan). Dr. Chen specializes in the development of novel drugs for ocular diseases, particularly Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD), Diabetic Retinopathy (DR), Diabetic Macular Edema (DME), Geographic Atrophy (GA), and Glaucoma/Neuroprotection (NP). His expertise spans process development and scale-up, project management, animal model establishment, regulatory submissions (NMPA/FDA), and the design and management of human clinical trials. Dr. Chen has demonstrated exceptional leadership and innovation in these areas. Dr. Chen has published numerous influential articles in top-tier journals, including Nature and its sub-journals, and has contributed chapters to biomedical textbooks.

Oculgen is developing a robust pipeline of innovative ophthalmic therapies, covering all stages from early target discovery to commercialization. Supported by venture capital, we aim to establish China’s first fully integrated ophthalmic company, combining independent drug development, GMP manufacturing, and access to top-tier clinical environments. Oculgen aims to offer top-quality, cutting-edge, and affordable treatments for retinal disease patients in China.
